Increasing their pay rates and permitting remote work were the top strategies used by contingent workforce programs in the last year to fight the talent shortage, according to results of SIA’s 2023 Workforce Solutions Buyer Survey. Companies with more than 1,000 internal workers participating in the survey were asked, “Which of the following actions have you taken, if any, to address talent shortages over the past 12 months?” Increasing their pay rates was the most-cited action, at 66%, followed by allowing for the use of remote workers at 56%. Other strategies include extending assignment limits (24%) and changing the focus on the type of contingent worker (20%).

Separately, respondents reported that a mean median 50% of their contingent workers are remote.
