Each year, Staffing Industry Analysts produces a list of the largest staffing firms in the US — workforce solutions providers with more than $100 million in revenue. And the list is growing.

This year, 144 staffing suppliers posted revenue of more than $100 million, representing 58.5% of the US staffing market.

That’s up from the 134 companies last year that accounted for 56.8% of the US staffing market. It’s also up from 2015, when 122 firms represented 55.9% of the market.

This report highlights the fragmented and highly competitive landscape of large staffing suppliers in the United States,” said Timothy Landhuis, “Contingent workforce managers may find this report useful for tracking the revenue size and capabilities of both their current suppliers as well as competitive alternatives.”

Trying out new staffing suppliers was cited by 32% of staffing buyers as a supplier management strategy they planned to try within the next two years, according to a separate survey by Staffing Industry Analysts. Half of buyers were already doing so.

But who are the largest US staffing firms this year? The five largest are:

  1. Allegis Group, $8.93 billion (6.5% market share)
  2. Randstad Holding: $4.67 billion (3.4%)
  3. Adecco: $4.60 billion (3.4%)
  4. Robert Half International Inc.: $3.55 billion (2.6%)
  5. Kelly Services Inc.: $3.40 billion (2.5%)

The top skill segments served by the 144 largest firms were industrial and IT. Forty-five firms cited industrial as a top segment, and 43 cited IT.

As a note, this year’s report defines “staffing revenue” as revenue related to temporary staffing, direct hire/permanent placement, retained search, and temp-to-hire conversion fees.
