In 2017, the human cloud portion of total gig economy revenue grew by 65% in 2017 to a total of $82.4 billion, according to a report from Staffing Industry Analysts [1]. Consumer-facing human cloud companies — such as Uber, Lyft, Handy or Instacart — accounted for the vast majority of human cloud spend, or $76.0 billion. Human cloud companies selling primarily to businesses (B2B) — such as Upwork and Work Market — generated $6.4 billion. The report detailing the gig economy and the human cloud landscape is available to CWS Council and SIA members.
