House Bill 5, which would codify the California Supreme Court’s ABC test for independent contractor classification, has been suspended by the Senate Appropriations Committee, attorneys with Littler Mendelson wrote in a blog post.

Following testimony by the state’s finance department that the bill would result in significant state expenditures, the committee referred the bill to its “Suspense File.” Attorneys Patrick Stokes, Michael Lotito and Bruce Sarchet explain the “Suspense File” rule and how the bill may still move forward.
