Total nonfarm employment rose by 292,000 and the unemployment rate edged lower by three basis points to 5.01% in December, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in its monthly jobs report. The college-level unemployment rate, which can serve as a proxy for professional employment, was unchanged month over month at 2.5%. Higher employment levels portends a continuing war for talent.
