The Taiwanese Ministry of Labor has determined Foodpanda and Uber Eats are employers of those who deliver food for their platforms. Foodpanda has rejected that assertion, Focus Taiwan News Channel reports [1].
The ministry conducted on-site labor inspections after the deaths of two food couriers working for Foodpanda and Uber Eats who were in separate vehicle collisions. The ministry determined the two firms should cover labor insurances and other benefits for their workers because they do in fact serve as an employer within the labor-management framework.
Foodpanda said it thoroughly researched labor laws in Taiwan before entering the market in 2012, and reiterated that its operations adhere to the letter of the law.
