Workers with H-1B visas spur innovation

Hiring skilled immigrants, such as those on H-1B visas, leads to innovation, according to new research released by the University of California San Diego. “We found companies with higher rates of H-1B workers increased product reallocation — the ability for companies to create new products and replace outdated ones, which in turn, grows revenue,” Gaurav Khanna, an author of the report and assistant professor of economics, told the UC San Diego News Center [1]. “This discourse could have far-reaching implications for US policy, the profitability of firms, the welfare of workers, and the potential for innovation in the economy as a whole.” H-1B visa holders are often employed through staffing firms and brought in by contingent workforce programs to provide needed skills.
