Justice Department ends investigation over utility’s use of H-1Bs

Contingent workforce users, especially in IT, often turn to H-1B visas to bring in needed talent. Some use of H-1B visas has come under political fire and other concerns. One staffing buyer, Southern California Edison, had come under political fire for its use of H-1B workers, and the Department of Justice launched an investigation. However, that investigation has ended.

“We confirm that we have been informed that DOJ has closed its investigation with no adverse findings against the company,” Southern California Edison confirmed in a statement to Contingent Workforce Strategies 3.0.

Lawmakers had lashed out against the company [1] in February 2015, raising questions about whether H-1Bs were misused by the company.

Previously, IT services firm Infosys Ltd. reported in September that the US Department of Labor concluded its investigation of labor condition applications at Southern California Edison involving Infosys and found no violations [2].

SCE internally announced the end of the DOJ investigation last week, Computerworld reported [3].
