Three trucking company subsidiaries of XPO Logistics Inc. were sued in California last week for allegedly misclassifying their drivers as independent contractors, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Separately in IC compliance news, North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory announced Bradley Hicks will head the state’s new Employee Classification Section of the within the North Carolina Industrial Commission. The unit was formed via an executive order in December in order to crack down on worker misclassification. Hicks previously was deputy director of the Department of Administration’s Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses. Prior to his government service, he was an attorney.
