Washington state ponders portable benefits

A bill has been proposed in Washington state that would create a benefit fund for gig economy workers [1], allowing them freedom to develop portable benefits, writes attorney Richard R. Meneghello at Montaq.com. Proposed by Rep. Jessyn Farrell, D-Seattle, House Bill 2109 [2] would create a portable, prorated, universal benefits for workers in the sharing economy, requiring sharing economy companies to contribute money toward a benefits system for independent contractors who work on their platforms. A similar proposal is underway in New York state [3], Meneghello writes.
