In our Contingent Buyers Survey for North America, we ask respondents to estimate the percent of their organization’s workforce that is contingent. We define contingent workers as all non-permanent workers, including temporary, contract staff, independent contractors and consultants, but excluding part-time regular employees. After rising substantially for a few years, the average percent across respondents has held steady at 18% since 2013. Note that this survey only represents companies with 1,000 or more employees.
